REGISTRATION

You can register by clicking the REGISTER link on the home page or the PARTICIPANTS tab at the top of this page. Online registration ends at 5 PM on Thursday, March 16th.

TEAM REQUIREMENTS

Teams may be composed of minimum 2 and a maximum 5 participants.

TEAM FORMATION

Participants may arrive with a pre-established team, but there will also be time at the start of the event to link up with other participants and form a team. You will be required to select a team name and designate a team spokesperson. Individuals may only participate and register with one team. Each team is solely responsible for it's own co-operation and teamwork.

HOW LONG IS THE EVENT?

Queen City Hack will begin at 8:00AM on Saturday, March 18th. Teams will begin working at 9:00AM on Saturday until demo time at 5:00PM the same day. All solutions must be developed during the course of QUEEN CITY <hack>.

LANGUAGES AND TOOLS

Teams are permitted to use any open source tools and/or code.

OWNERSHIP

All solutions must be open source and uploaded to Github and Google Drive prior to the judging period at 5:15PM PM on March 18th, 2017. As part of the terms of this competition, ownership of the solution created by participants is donated by the participants to the participating organization they hacked for.

 

FAQS

WILL THE SPECIFIC ISSUES/PROBLEMS TO BE WORKED ON BE ANNOUNCED AHEAD OF TIME?

Yes, the problem statements from our civic partners will be announced ahead of time - however, all solutions must be fully developed during the course of the event.

CAN MORE THAN ONE TEAM WORK ON THE SAME PROBLEM?

Yes - there will be more teams than there are problem statements, and we know you're a creative bunch who could take these solutions in any number of directions!

DO I NEED A TEAM TO REGISTER?

No, you don't need to be a part of a team to register, but you can easily link up with other participants on this site under the PARTICIPANTS tab. If you don't have a team going into this competition, don’t fret! There will be time before the actual hacking begins to find teammates!

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

  • Your laptop
  • Mobile device, if creating a mobile app
  • Cables, chargers and connectors for any of the above
  • Data sticks are not necessary but could be handy, in case of any Wi-Fi troubles

WHAT APIs CAN WE USE?

There are no mandatory APIs or data sets that must be used in your project. You can use APIs in your hacks or you can create your projects from scratch; here is a comprehensive API directory and here is a bunch of open data from the City of Regina .

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR PROJECTS AFTER QUEEN CITY HACK?

This event is all about creating open source tech solutions for organizations in our community. We want to make sure these organizations can actually make use of these solutions, so at the end of the hackathon, we ask that you give a copy to the organization as well as upload it to Github for them to download.

WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING US? WHAT IF I HAVE A FOOD RESTRICTION OR ALLERGY?

We will be providing meals and snacks throughout the event, self-serve style. If you have a food restriction or allergy, please reach out to Chelsea Grumbly and we will accommodate you.
