Ready? Here are your problem statements!

Hey there!

Ready for QUEEN CITY <hack>? Make your way to 10 Research Drive for 8:00AM this Saturday for registration and breakfast! We’ll get things rolling at 8:30AM with opening remarks by our MC, and some words from our civic partners- Regina Public Library, Regina Downtown BID, and Regina Warehouse District!

Remember to come armed with your laptop, mobile device, any corresponding chargers, and anything else you need to hack the day away. We'll be providing the food and caffeine!

Here are the problem statements from our three civic partners. Remember, all of the hacking has to be done during the event! Representatives from these organizations will be on hand until 9:30AM to answer any questions that you may have about their statements.

Regina Public Library

  1. ) Way to track what is being read in Regina

The Regina Public Library would like something that allows their customers to see what other people in the city are reading. For example, customers would be able to see the top book of the day, week, month, year, etc. It can be tied to their library card, so when they check out books, the website/app/etc. automatically pulls the information. RPL would also like for there to be a way for customers to manually enter in books they do not get from the library (example if customers buy a book, are gifted a book, etc.). This will be fun for the customers but it will also allow RPL’s collections department to see if there are holes in their collection. *Additional data available*

  1. ) Interactive component to the Summer Reading Contest and Club (SRCC)

The SRCC is a yearly contest that takes place from June 28th to August 31st where every item read counts as an entry.  There are separate contests for kids, teens, and adults. Currently, there are only two ways to enter: either via an online ballot or a paper ballot. RPL is looking for a way to make it more fun/interactive to participate in the SRCC.  Maybe a “game” where people level up each time they read a book or a certain number of pages?

Regina Warehouse District

  1. ) A Warehouse District Member Application

The Warehouse District has over 550 businesses within its boundaries. We would like an application that will increase communication amongst these member businesses as well as communication with the WDBID. Any Warehouse District business can download the app and create a login. It would exist as a platform where members can do various things, such as: post information, updates and events regarding their location, send messages out to the membership (perhaps they are looking for a particular service provider), or send messages to the BID office pertaining to questions or concerns they may have. The priority is to create this app for Warehouse District members; however, if it proves to be useful, we would potentially like to create a second side intended for the public, where the WDBID and its members could promote important information and upcoming events.

  1. ) A Warehouse Multiple Listing (MLS) Application for Real-Estate

The Warehouse District seeks to create a thriving area for people to do business. The BID would like an application that houses all real-estate listings in one place. This will allow people looking for property in the area to easily search for what’s available. The app would allow the public to log on and browse all buildings for sale within the Warehouse District, as well as get in contact with the BID and real-estate agents handling the properties.

  1. ) A Warehouse District Walking Tour Application

The Warehouse District is an area full of rich history and captivating architecture. The BID would like an application that the general public can use to learn more about the area via self-directed walking tours. We would like the app to be similar to what Izi Travel puts together, where people can listen to audio that guides them throughout the District. We would like an app where multiple tours can be uploaded. We would like the app to sync with maps, so that the audio will automatically start playing at particular points along the walking route.

Regina Downtown Business Improvement District

  1. ) What’s Going on Downtown?

Help Regina Downtown BID find a solution to gather data and information from different sources to build a robust calendar of all the events happening downtown!

  1. ) Consolidated Media Program

Build an app, website, or program that integrates photos, videos, and social media posts focused on all of Regina Downtown’s events.

  1. ) Integrated Services Map for At-Risk Population

Where can the at-risk population of Regina go to find a place to sleep, eat or a medical check up?

  1. ) Downtown Parking

Who has available monthly parking – where are they located and what are their daily or monthly rates? Included with a prediction algorithm that allows users to head to the spot that is predicted to be currently available.
